Evil Never Looked This Good
By Peter Moses
2009-10-1510:36
First of all let me set the records straight, this is a movie that has got bad reviews from "critics" from the moment the trailer was released but what I feel is that, it's unfair to judge every movie on the same criteria.
Certain movies, especially when it’s an adaptation of an old cartoon series have to stay true to some elements of the core concept and that may lead to a “very thin plot” or “predictable characters” but let me remind everyone THAT’S WHAT G.I JOE is.
It’s a good guys against the bad guys movie, simple as that. If you want a movie with a captivating storyline, deep seeded characters that portray the complexity of man and society and all that go watch Brokeback Mountain or something. If it’s an action movie you want it doesn’t get better than this. G.I Joe is a perfectly orchestrated symphony of explosions, shoot outs, chases, sword fights and killer microscopic robots coupled with some intense scenes and humorous one liners.

Weapons manufacturer McCullen (who turns out to be Destro) manufactures an army of Metal eating nano-bots and tries to frame NATO for the theft of the weapons. However when the Baroness and her unit attack the military convoy led by Duke and Ripcord escorting the weapons the Joe’s Scarlett, Snake Eyes and Heavy Duty come to the rescue. However the Baroness manages to eventually steal the weapon. Duke and Ripcord, feeling responsible since the weapons were stolen under their watch ask to join the Joe’s in retrieving the weapons before McCullen uses them to... well… basically take over the world.

The rest of the movie is how the Joe’s try to retrieve the weapons. During which Duke and Ripcord join the ranks as Joe’s and through a series of flashbacks and sub plots the director manages to set the stage for the birth of Cobra.

One more thing that was interesting is the advanced weaponry and numerous gadgets used in the movie, although the “Accelerator Suits” worn by Duke and Ripcord bear a striking similarity in function and design to the “Nano Suits” in the popular FPS game Crysis, as a whole the advanced technology gave the movie a futuristic, crisp feel to it and the action sequences were refreshingly different to your standard “blow em up” routines used in most action movies.

All in all G.I Joe is a movie with tons of action, tons of explosives and tons of metal eating Nano bots. In conclusion, would I pay about 300 bucks, stand in line for half an hour and eventually sit in one place for 2 hours to watch this movie? Hell yeah… To all those people who are put off by the critics I’d like to say if it’s a good action movie you’re looking for this weekend you’re not gonna find anything better than this, as a matter of fact a lot of “it wasn’t as bad as we thought” reviews have been popping up recently. Well… Now you know and knowing is winning half the battle, Yo Joe!!!...

packed with CGI, should be good in cinema. no storyline at all.. if you just concentrate on what you see and not try to listen to what they talk about, you should be fine.
