Twilight Fever Finally Hits Colombo with Eclipse
2010-07-1412:52
Picturesque mountains, dark forests and gloomy skies; Yes, we are back in the lives of Edward and Bella.
Eclipse, the third installment of the ever so famous Twilight saga was released on June 30, worldwide and has already hit $30 million in the box office in over 4000 theatres worldwide surpassing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner: the trio playing the love triangle received a tremendous response from their fans when the movie which premiered in UK, Berlin and LA, California.

Director David Slade seems to have succeeded in doing justice to Stephanie Meyer’s novel. In a personal opinion, Taylor Lautner’s character Jacob is one of the main climaxes of Eclipse simply because he manages to create a ripple between the calm romance between Edward and Bella, the on screen/off screen couple. So, we can’t help but love the character of Jacob (not only for his looks) just as when we first loved Bella and Edward.

Edward (Robert Pattinson) fans will be thrilled to see their hero back in action in this third sequel as most fans were disappointed with his lack of presence in New Moon. Bella’s character has grown with time and we see that Kristen Stewart as an actress has also improved in her performance in the movie tremendously.

However, Bella’s confusion as to which guy she truly loves creates a question in our mind; whether she would actually go ahead with turning into a vampire therefore stays a mystery. The much talked about kiss between Bella and Jacob definitely gives us reason to believe that Bella may actually be in love with Jacob at this point and when she confesses that she loves Jacob we realize she’s one confused teenage girl.

It was great to see Dakota Fanning back on the big screen playing the role of the powerful Jane of the Volturi. Since we’ve seen her grow up from a child actress to a teenage one, we have to admire her strength as an actor as she gives a lot of character to each of her performances and this role in particular was a difficult one to play which I feel she nailed!

The character of Victoria that is now played by Bryce Dallas Howard (replacing Rachelle Lefevre who previously played her) returns with a stronger vengeance for Bella that she creates her own army of newborns to destroy Bella. Edward and Jacob are therefore forced to unite to save the girl they love.

Although the dialogs seem to drag on in the movie and seems monotonous, the fighting is more intense and crude providing a lot more entertainment than New moon. The scene where the Cullen family and the werewolf clan come together for battle with Victoria’s army was the most thrilling part of the movie.

All in all I feel that it was the strong performances of the actors which seemed to have carried the movie through to be a success.

Rumour has it that the final book of the twilight series will be filmed in two installments dragging the movie sequels a little bit. But since most critics seem to agree that Eclipse is probably the best from the series maybe David Slade should take on the challenge for the final installments of Breaking Dawn as well.

But for now: All Twihard fans! This one’s for you! Eclipse will be in Sri Lanka from July 16, at the Liberty Cinema, and since this is the first time a sequel of Twilight is shown in Colombo, be sure not to miss out on it!
