This first ever Inter City Hotel Sports Extravaganza , will be organized by Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo( formerly known as Trans Asia Hotel ),exclusively for five star city hotels in Colombo on August 7 & 8, 2010.

This Sports Extravaganza will not only increase comradeship amongst the staff at Cinnamon Lakeside but amongst all staff from the other participating hotels as well. The other hotels partaking in this sports extravaganza will include Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Galadari Hotel, Taj Samudra, Hilton Colombo and Ceylon Continental Hotel. According to the Director of Operations, all 20 participants from each Hotel will be physically checked by a doctor before the events and their safety is to be assured at all times.

The games will begin at 7.30 am on August 7, with a 16.2 km cycle race. The race route (to be taken thrice) is from the opposite of the hotel through Slave- Island all the way to the old Parliament round -about to the Galle Face Hotel round- about and back again to the hotel. Please take note that it was requested from the organizers that supporters will not be allowed. Families and friends of riders do not have to fear for first aides and an ambulance will accompany the riders, at all times. What’s more, the riders’ will be entirely safe for in addition to the special monitors that will follow them through out the race; there will be an additional Police guard and car following them as well. Refreshments will also be provided. Other activities scheduled for August 7, include a netball tournament at the Hotel court, a competitive soccer match where four teams are to play each other on a League basis and the top two teams play each other in the final. The other much anticipated event and highlight of the day one will be the swimming meet, at the Hotel pool.

All events which include water tug-a-war, tube race relay, and a challenging obstacle relay will be open events for both males and females. Since in Sri Lanka cricket is more than just a game, but a way of life and a reason for living, the second and final day of this sports extravaganza, will be a whole day dedicated to cricket. It’ll be a 6 a side tournament played at the Thurstan Grounds. Cash awards and trophies will be awarded to the winners of every sporting event.

What’s more, Yasmine Carder also brought to our attention that in addition to the fun and games , Cinnamon Lakeside also regularly conducts CSR projects with neighbouring schools, and have and continue to enhance children’s’ playgrounds at the Slave-Island junction in order to not only colour the lives of their employees but of the community as well.
